"News Ex Machina"
7:41:31 PM EST - Eberon
I just noticed that Blue's is doing a wonderfully funny and interesting weekly title GIF theme, this time featuring J.C.

Check out Bluesnews now and then, if you don't already. It's a great source for information regarding all games and all development studios. The best part is, no Deus Ex news slips through the cracks when I read Blues every day :)

Extra, Extra! Stay updated about Redsun on your own!
7:39:12 PM EST - Eberon
Our friends at the Redsun 2020 project have a new newsletter that you, the excited Deus Ex gamer, can subscribe to. Having seen the first one, I can say that it's very well written and concise. I am positive that you won't regret your subscription. Send an e-mail to Odaiba requesting your copies.

In other news, Odaiba is BACK, as Redsun's own news section says, and Steve Tack of Tack's Deus Ex Lab will be the project's sound manager. Congratulations to both parties!

Lastly, some help is needed. Information from Scopa follows:
We are currently looking for the a serious FULL TIME SKINNER. Requirements is to be dedicated to the project up to June 2002. Experience in Photoshop, UnrealED, compiling for Deux SDK and hopefully some art samples to show of previous work.
I assume that applicants can contact Scopa directly with their offers.

Brem speaks on "The Master's Slave"
8:35:13 AM EST - Eberon
Some answers have come forth regarding yesterday's news item in our forums. Brem_X_Jones, the well-known and well spoken project leader has shown some light on the issue. I won't quote some of what he said because it's pretty lengthy. See the forum here. To be truthful, I'm rather disgusted and saddened that this issue turned out to be exactly what it claimed to be. We shall see how things develop, I suppose.

Stay tuned for more information. It seems like most of it will be coming through that thread, however, so keep an eye on it as well.

Files hot off of the press.
4:21:43 PM EST - Eberon
The Coop Project has released beta 1 of their modifaction! There are a good number of links on their news page. If you're not sure what the Coop Project is, for some reason, check the following description:

The Co-Op Project is a team based effort to bring a Co-Op Multiplayer Patch to the Deus Ex community. We are converting existing maps, and once the code is finished we're gonna do our best to support independant DX Coop maps and further mods who want to have Coop play.

Be sure to check this one out. It looks very well done!

Hmmm..
8:28:56 AM EST - Eberon
Got an interesting note from someone today, but I'm not sure of the validity of it. I've contacted Brem_X_Jones to see what he has to say about it, but in the meantime I'll share it with you:

"Got something for you guys.

I applied to join Cassandra as a texture guy, but was turned down. That whole "Narcissus Entity" shit is more than a pose - never met such a snobby Mod team in my life. Anyway - when I was trying out, I had access to their file-space for a bit and grabbed a passworded zip. I've attached it - see what you think.

Haven't tried cracking it yet, but I'm going to download AZPR and see if it works. If you want a shot, download the trial version here...

http://www.elcomsoft.com/azpr.html#

Have fun.

The Master's Slave"

The file he mentioned is here. What can anyone make of this? Is it legitimate? Are there really sensitive project files out in the open or is this just someone playing a joke?

Weekend Files
8:35:31 PM EST - Eberon
It's Sunday evening, and you know what that calls for! WEEKEND FILES! Woohoo!

A follow up to the multiplayer map Orius, called Cyraxx, is now available, created by -- you guessed it -- DerianX. Download at the above link.

For the modders out there, a new converter that will convert 3D Studio Max files into an Unreal readable format (c'mon, give me a break; it's all greek to me) can be found here.

A high-res preview/movie for the upcoming Deus Ex PS2 title has shown up here at Fileplanet. Be sure to give it a look if you can spare the bandwidth.

Okay, that's it for this weekend. Stay tuned every weekend for a compilation of each week's files!

Not again!
10:20:15 AM EST - Eberon
I thought this already happened, but word trickles down the grapevine about a quote from Slicer in someone's forums...
I will add that I will be leaving the DX Community completely following my cease to the contribution earlier in the year. Reasons include that I believe there is no space for DXMP to advance with certain people who simply bring it down, bug abuse, cheaters, etc... things have gone too far and it looks like that it is understandable why many others have left beforehand and why there is no support for DXMP. Perhaps I realised too late, but now it's obvious to me. I wish the best of luck to all [DEA] members and those that still lie within the community.

Dune dead, Dune alive.
12:57:42 PM EST - Eberon
The Dune project, formerly located here, is gone. However, a new Dune project has opened up. I'm very eager to see what will come of this, as Dune is (in my opinion) one of the best science fiction series ever!

We'll keep you updated on developments with the Dune project. If you've got some modding talent, head over there and apply for a position, why doncha?

Information on AYDX changes.
12:22:22 AM EST - Eberon
Straight from the masters of news at DX Center...

"Chez from AYDX has announced that they will be switching gears. Instead of creating a singleplayer modification, the decision has been made to create a multiplayer mod based on the same premise. Details beyond that are not yet known. If you'd like more information or if you're interested in joining, contact Chez."

More preachers news--
4:47:32 PM EST - Eberon
Rob Hale sends word of another goodie available for Preachers fans and would-be fans. There's brand spanking new backdrop for your desktop image pleasure. A thumbnail (which he was kind enough to attach) is below. Click to be taken to the Preachers site, where you can grab the image in your preferred resolution.

Thanks again to Mr. Hale for the heads-up!

Preachers opens!
12:36:21 PM EST - Eberon
Word from Rob Hale, project manager of Preachers, follows:
Well after three months of no site we finnally did it. I'll admit it isn't the fascinating amalgamation of flash and quicktime that we intended but it serves a purpose, and that purpose is confusing our dear public :)

There be website here:

At long last, we hath returned.
8:28:46 AM EST - Eberon
Blame it on Greasels, blame it on the MJ12 (spoiler warning), blame it on whoever you want. The simple fact of the matter is that we are back and we have plenty of things planned for release within the next week. Hopefully, with Thanksgiving coming up, I'll have some time to work things up and you'll be too busy to realize that the site hasn't been getting huge content updates while I do so. At least, that's the plan ;).

"Mad Propz" to MsLedd, our server admin, who undoubtedly fixed the problems we were having.

New project announced - Cabal of Technophiles.
5:24:31 PM EST - Eberon
A new modification group has been announced to the public (with this news item!). They are called the Cabal of Technophiles. Information from their news page follows -- a little about what their plan is:
Duplicity: This is our principal mod. It will add some of the most frequently requested choices to Deus Ex. You will be able to play as a female character, to avoid capture, to stay with UNATCO and to go down the evil path (those of you who've played the game know what we mean...). This is, however, an expansion. We are not going to change the essence of the game; if you choose to be male and make your usual choices, there will be very little that is different or feels different. But you are the one who is going to define who JC Denton is, and depending on your choices, quite a lot of interesting new things can happen.

We know that this is a major project, and it will take several months. Some parts of it are already working, other parts are still in the planning stage.

Deus Extras: Along the way, as we complete various stages of the major project, we will release stand-alone map enhancements and mini-mods called "Deus Extras." Some of these will be quite small; others will be more complex. All will be included in the final release of Duplicity.
Very interesting. The "Female JC" mod that was discussed so much in our forums has come to light! Stay tuned for more information as it comes in. Our contacts are reliable, even if we don't know who they are... ;)
(okay, we do. That's just a play on their little conspiracy theme)

Matrix Mod Death/Rebirth
10:19:29 PM EST - Elenkis
The guys behind the Matrix mod have decided that the poject was just too ambitious. While this is sad news, it does allow the team focus on a much more "doable" mod - which is exactly what they're doing!

Grand Conspiracy aims to deliver:

A fantastic single player experience, delivered in Episodes.
New maps and different scenarios will blow the players mind. We will map out new locales from across the globe, and take JC Denton to places he never dreamed about. We hope you'll be with with us every step of the way.
Go check it out!

Wrath of Halo Additions
10:05:46 PM EST - Elenkis
Good news over at The Wrath of Halo mod! They have found their new modeller in the form of BebopXX who joins the team along with new PR guy Shukun. Good luck to both them and the team, I'm sure they'll do a kick ass job!

Klystron Project update
9:53:35 PM EST - Elenkis
The Original DX section over on the Klystron Project site has been updated with more details on how the original DX weapons will feature in the mod. They have some very neat enhancements in store for some of the old weapons, love the idea of the updated Riot Prod :-)

New from Face!
8:52:34 PM EST - Eberon
Face, esteemed mapper and modder extraordinaire, is up to something new! It's a new Deus Ex gametype called "Eliminator", which will be somewhat familiar to those of you who have played the Last Man Standing gametype of Unreal Tournament. Here's the lowdown:

"In addition to working on my new map "Origin Unknown: Towers 2" I have also been working on a new game type for DXMP called "Eliminator". With this game type, every player is given X amount of lives. Every time they are killed, they lose a life (obviously). The eventual winner is the player remaining after all the other players have lost their X lives.

Now, this adds to the gameplay in that it's not just a "dive right in and kill as many players as you can" because you obviously run the risk of losing a life, which isn't good. So the game becomes more tactical and requires more thinking."

Be sure to stay tuned to our site and Face's for all the good details.

Warzone goodies.
1:29:26 PM EST - Eberon
Our friends over at the Warzone project have a few new things, namely 2 sniper rifle models (Barret M82A1 and the super-rare Walther WA-2000). An HK G36 model is also available (from November 1st). Lastly, there are some short updates on their about page. Check out the goods!
