Brothers has quite a few new things up their sleeve. First off, they have a new team member, Sam White. There are 4 screenshots from an upcoming map called RedZone, and Brothers is also asking for a coder. Head on over there if you want to help out!

GOTY = May 11th (or 9th)
4:29:11 PM EST - Eberon
The Adrenaline Vault reports today that the Game of the Year edition of Deus Ex will be shipping on May 11th. They go on later to say that it will hit store shelves the 9th, so who knows which is true. Here's a snippet:
The Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition will be available in stores beginning the ninth of next month. The Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition features an updated version of the engaging single-player game as well as an all-new multi-person feature that allows each participant to create and customize a character, providing a new deathmatch experience. The Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition also contains an SDK that allows gamers to create new missions with the same tools used at the hand of the developer. Also included is a music CD featuring over 30 of the best songs from music score remixed for better sound
The article can be found here.

New goodies at the Aquinas Hub
4:19:47 PM EST - Eberon
Csana, the excellent site manager from the Aquinas Hub sends word of many new things.

First off, there's a review of DXMP_Hydro, which I have yet to try.

Secondly, Blamer has updated his excellent Turret Wars article with some general strategies. Next up: Area 51 and CMD hacking guides.

The FAQ over at the Aquinas Hub has also been updated with a couple more questions. Check it out here.

Lastly, a great contributor to the Aquinas Hub, Rigel_Denton has been struck by the hideous oppressive beast we call RL (or real life, for the unknowing). You will be missed, R_D.

Evening mod news.
9:58:24 PM EST - Eberon
Well, let's see what's new tonight.

Predator's Night, the Blade Runner mod, has a new design today. Check it out!

Ben Brown of somewhere sends word of this update to the Uprising mod:
"Magic has finished an MP3 Audio trailer for his Deus Ex: Uprising mod and is looking for feedback. Visit his site site here (http://www.stormloader.com/cigam/index.htm) and check it out!"
Well, I guess we'd better do that! I've already downloaded it, and I think it sounds pretty damned good.

Good news for Skirmish!
11:39:40 AM EST - Eberon
I reported earlier that Skirmish the Deus Ex paintball mod was close to termination. Today, I have great news! Fried Chicken, project leader sends word that the mod is back on track and flourishing again. In addition to offers of help from three people, Skrimish is (hopefully) moving to its new Planet Deus Ex home today. On the Skirmish site, Fried Chicken also says that we can look forward to a mapping competition from them. Welcome back, guys!

Test your knowledge: A new feature at DXM!
11:28:26 AM EST - Eberon
We've got some great news for all of you! Today we have a new section of the site. That section contains, if you haven't guessed it, a couple of quizzes written by two very talented people, SpyGirl and TechImmortal. Only the elite conspirator will be able to answer every single one, so get over there and find out how serious you are!

Discussion of the quiz questions can be carried out here in our very own forums.

In other site news, keep watching this site for new additions. These quizzes are only the begining. We have a couple of interviews in the works, a very special secret thing that I won't tell you about, and a rather humorous section that will be added whenever I get to it (believe me, it's the last thing on my list). Enjoy, and as always, if you have comments, tell us!

No news!
11:28:39 PM EST - Eberon
There's no news to speak of! I would recommend that you start through the game again on realistic mode and try out some of the augs you've never picked before. Or, if you haven't already, try out multiplayer. It's a blast!

New design online at the Aquinas Hub
6:12:41 PM EST - Eberon
As I reported yesterday, Thrawn, webmaster of the Aquinas Hub was working on a new site design. Today it is online! The design looks excellent (much more so now that the font has been enlarged) and is quite a bit more efficient. It even sports php! Check it out now!

"It doesn't look good"
6:09:42 PM EST - Eberon
These were the words of Fried Chicken, project lead of the Skirmish mod. More words from him follow:
It doesnt look good for the mod now. Nobody wants to join and help out the mod. I dunno what to do now, ill just keep this page up for reference and if i wanna start again then whatever....bye everyone
Well, all I can say is: what a shame. If you do still feel like helping out, or sending your regards, I am sure that he would love to hear from you. The project looked very good and many of us (who unfortunately do not have modding skills) were looking forward to it, that I know.

The patch fixes list
11:27:07 PM EST - Eberon
The list of fixes for the patch have been temporarily posted up here. Enjoy them whilst you download!

Patches! Get your patches!
10:59:23 PM EST - Eberon
The new Deus Ex patches are out! I'll skip the nitty gritty and get down to the business:

A full update to 1112fm

1109 to 1112fm patch

The updated SDK.

Strange that the DEA site wasn't on top of this one to report it. Anyway, as soon as I get the readme, I'll upload it so you can read it while you download.

Thrawn works his magic at the Aquinas Hub
6:41:11 PM EST - Eberon
Thrawn, returning webmaster for the Aquinas Hub, has been working his mojo lately and is almost ready to move an entirely new layout/design in place. It looks really good. Get a sneak peek here.

New model pics at Warzone
4:37:32 PM EST - Eberon
There are two new model pics over at Warzone, a "n34t" shotgun and a "n34t" Uzi that's been textured!

Get on over there for the model pics! If you didn't see them a couple of days ago, there are also some unsilenced mp5 models.

Wednesday, April 25, 2001

Good things afoot at Indecision.
7:18:59 PM EST - Eberon
There are many things going on over at the Indecision mod today.

First, there are a slew of new team members. Instinct and A.D. are two new coders, while NYCancer and Overtron have taken up some skinning/texturing work. However, Indecision still needs a weapon skinner and a model animator. E-mail them with your application if you'd like to fill either of those two positions.

Not to leave their fans disappointed, Indecision gives us some new model pictures of the M-16 Mark IV. Find them here

Lastly, there is a new poll system on the site that should improve your.. err. voting. Yeah.

DXEditing maps and tools
7:12:52 PM EST - Eberon
DXEditing, an excellent resource for map downloads, tutorials, and utilities, has three new maps in their files section: DXMP_MCRamos, DXMP_MotorInn, and DXMP_Hydro. Additionally, there's a new utility called DX Text, that will format various text files so that they can be used in Deus Ex.

Check out all the goodies at DXEditing!

News from the Aquinas Hub
7:01:03 PM EST - Eberon
Csana from the Aquinas Hub has updated his guide that details how to install multiplayer maps once you have downloaded them (a great idea!)

Also at the site is a new poll, asking what your favorite heavy weapon in the game is. Some comments about the last poll can be found here. If you have any poll ideas for the Aquinas Hub, send them to Csana, and that goes for us too.

Skirmish is in need of team members
7:49:01 PM EST - Eberon
First of all, thanks go to Planet Deus Ex for this one, since my browser doesn't seem to want to load the Skirmish web site..

To get down to the nitty gritty, the Skirmish team needs more members desparately. They are facing a closure if more help does not arrive soon. If you can help, send word to Fried Chicken.

DXMP_Skyline strategies at The Aquinas Hub.
4:29:57 PM EST - Eberon
I think the title says most of what you need to know, doesn't it? The Aquinas Hub has a strategy guide posted by SilentFire that is guaranteed to get you more frags in DXMP_Skyline.

Check it out for the tactical value as well as info on a secret area in the map that will set you ahead of the rest!

New screens at Warzone!
10:49:44 PM EST - Eberon
The Warzone Mod, one of the oldest and longest-running mods has two new screenshots today, both of an Mp5 without a silcener. Check them out here. Bap bap bap!

A minor comment on our philosophy.
10:44:55 PM EST - Eberon
If some of you have been wondering why we here at DXM don't post screenshots right along with our newsposts, the reasons are twofold:

First and most important, we want you to be able to load the page and see what's new as soon as possible. Adding screenshots also increases the post length, which bumps other news off of the map faster, and we don't want that!

Secondly, while it probably doesn't matter, I feel that the fans should support mod, news, and file sites by visiting them rather than checking out their goods and not bothering to see the full story. In other words, support your community sites!

I hope that clears that up for any of you who may have wondered. Do you have any thoughts? Any suggestions in general? Please email me. I'm wide open to your thoughts. After all, our purpose is serving YOU.

New model at the Klystron Project
10:37:06 PM EST - Eberon
The Klystron Project has a brand new model of a Desert Eagle .5 (Gold edition) in their Concepts area, along with all the other weapons and items that are planned at this point.

New tutorials at DeusEx Ed
10:36:55 PM EST - Eberon
Well, there are eight brand new tutorials at Deus Ex Ed today! They all come from TheRenegadeMaster, of the former DXTerminal. (Note: they may not be new. It seems that they are old ones from the now-defunct site. Still, they are great tutorials!)

Check them out at Deus Ex Ed.

New screenies of HellsGate
10:32:05 PM EST - Eberon
Face, a talented Deus Ex mapper, has some new screenshots of his latest map HellsGate as his website right here. Looks good!

Aquinas Hub reviews & article
10:28:27 PM EST - Eberon
The Aquinas Hub, a veritable resource for all your DXMP needs has a review of DXMP_Warehouse.

Also new on the site, taken directly from the news post:
Well, I don't want you to keep waiting until I finish the whole thing, so I've posted the first installment of my Turret Wars article, this part being on augmentations. This will be followed by general strategies and map-specific hacking strategies, so stay tuned!

SDK news for the Mac world
10:31:52 AM EST - Eberon
Mr. Baird from MacDeusEx also sends word of the progress being made on the SDK:
Project Seppuku, our attempt at making a SDK for the Macintosh, is slowly but surely coming along. At our recent meeting we further discussed coding languages, we believe we are getting close to making a decision. Framework for the application is becoming to get clearer too, in order to gain more support for the project we are thinking of opening it up to all Unreal based games, and using a plug-in based system to support each game. This would allow more games to be supported at an easier rate. Of course, more support is needed from the community, and more information can be found from the Seppuku page.
Excellent news!

MacDeusEx serves up a heaping pile of DX goodness
10:28:06 AM EST - Eberon
MacDeusEx the Macintosh gamer's source for everything Deus Ex, sends us a huge list of things that are going on over there.

First off is something I wish someone would do for the PC.. Mac GUI makeovers in the image of Deus Ex! I'll leave it to the man himself, Robert Baird, to explain:
Recently we started a new project, code named "The Augmentation Project", where we are rewriting the MacOS GUI to make it more Deus Ex-like. Our first submission was posted yesterday, a mouse cursor taken from the game. This, in addition to the Outlook Express Sound Sets for the e-mail application, can be downloaded from the project's file page. Tons of other modifications are planned, including Theme and Sound sets, MP3 player skins, screens savers, and much much more.
MacDeusEx also has a very good area for tips and cheats that can be used by gamers of either platform. I've visited myself, and I must say that's worth a look!

I'll make the next update in a separate post, since it deserves some special notice.

Save your credits/nanites/dollars!
12:01:39 PM EST - Eberon
I meant to mention this a few days ago, but have been forgetting:

Alex Brandon, Music God of Ion Storm, will be releasing a few music CDs of his in the near future. Right now, you can get his Unreal Tourney/Unreal CD by going to paypal, entering Alex's email address (alexb@ionstorm.com) and sending him ten bucks! If you're lucky enough to be in the first 100, you'll get a doubly autographed copy. After that, you'll get one autographed by Alex (which is itself enough!).

*Slides back on topic* Anyway, fans of Deus Ex will be glad to know that the next CD he will be releasing will be the custom DX tunes CD. Skip lunch, sell your copy of Daikatana for its worth ($1) and steal your brother's piggy bank!

Watch this space for the announcement. Word from Alex himself says that it'll still be a couple of months. I don't know about you, but I can't wait much longer!

Tutorials a go-go
11:49:39 AM EST - Eberon
Two new tutorials floating around today, one from Skirmish and one from The UC.

The first tutorial from Skirmish (which, for those of you who don't know, is a paintball mod) is about skeletal attachment. Coming next from them: how to animate the skeleton. Someone call the ghostbusters!

The second tutorial from The Universal Constructor is about zones. What are zones, you ask? The UC has an answer for you:
Zones make up different parts of your level. Your level may only have one zone or may have many. Zones are separated by sheets or invisible zone portals in your level. Zones are not the things which make the blue loading message appear.
Well, what can I say! I'm thrilled. Check it out here.

Enough Aquinas Hub content to choke ya.
11:39:13 AM EST - Eberon
The busy bees at the Aquinas Hub are at it again. First off, they have a new addition to tbe beehive, SilentFire. With his entrance, he brings us a wonderful article on playing DXMP_Silo.

Blamer also has a review of DXMP_Villa today, as well as news of something else you can look forward to:
Starting this weekend, I will also be bringing you a feature called "Turret Wars" to help beginners and intermediate players get used to both the stealth and combative aspects of being a turret-hacker in the five Ion Storm maps. If it turns out to be popular, I may add write-ups for custom levels such as Skyline and Underground on request.

New Poll here!
12:01:59 AM EST - Eberon
I know you have been waiting a long, long time, and finally we have a new poll! This poll asks you what you feel you would like improved in Deus Ex 2. Be sure to vote only once!

As soon as my poor wittle head can figure out how to check the past results, I will get those posted, too. Needless to say, most people agreed that the patches were great!

New Deus Ex project announced
4:45:30 PM EST - Eberon
The latest modification announcement comes from Planet Deus Ex, who have received word of a new mod based around the "All Your Base Are Belong To Us" hoopla (it pains me to type it). The site can be found here, but I'm sure we'll be seeing them moving to PDX soon. What great guys for hosting everyone!

New MP patch in the works.
4:38:32 PM EST - Eberon
Well, word has passed down the grapevine that Ion Storm will be dishing out yet another hot, steamy plate of MP lovin'. Sources say that the next patch will be released very soon and that it should address issues such as the "chicken dance" and a few minor flamethrower problems.

We'll keep you updated! In the meantime, be sure to read around in the Ion Storm forums, where talk is ablaze about the game and some of its remaining issues.

Deus Fortress updates
12:08:12 PM EST - Eberon
The popular Deus Fortress mod has updated again with a new and improved forum system, as well as a skinned assault rifle and 5 new shots from a map called Cargo!

Aquinas Hub has new content today
11:20:50 AM EST - Eberon
The Aquinas Hub has updated again with an interview with the author of DXMP_Towers. They also have 11 exclusive screenshots for your drooling pleasure.

Also, the Aquinas Hub seems to be picking up an idea that I've been trying to implement for a while (but have failed in doing so). They now have a clans database with information about every Deus Ex clan out there! (ok, well not yet) Send them your information to be added!

The Kylstron Project wants your opinion!
12:56:23 AM EST - Eberon
The Klystron Project wants your opinion on which SERP you want. Vote for the red or the grey (and see them both as well) at their features area.

No news, no news.
12:43:11 AM EST - Eberon
At least none that I can find (although I am pretty tired). If you're bored, be sure to drop by the TTLG Forums for some captivating discussion. Why, I would even go so far as to say that the discussions are stupifyingly scintillating. Definitely join the fun if you haven't already!

Planet Deus Ex shows a sample of their contest!
12:40:37 AM EST - Eberon
One of the submitting mappers to the PDX Mapping Contest sent in some screenshots to them. The 'shots look absolutely gorgeous, so be sure to head over there and check out the two that are on the front page today.

Indecision has updated with some screenshots! They look gorgeous, so be sure to check them out. Also, they have a new member, Draken-Wulf.

Monday, April 16, 2001

Oh, brother!
10:40:22 AM EST - Eberon
The PDX hosted site, Brothers has updated their page with some new sounds and tweaked their story a bit. The project lead comments on the site that, "Someone said there are too many mods around at the moment, meaning that people who can mod Deus Ex are spread too thinly." While there are many vacancies in mod teams, and we all want modifications to be finished and in our hands, we have to be patient. It is a very GOOD thing that there are many mod teams. Many ideas = quite a few good ones, and as my latest post happened to coincidentally state, we can and should be helping each other out. Send him a nice email and tell him to not give up.

Teamwork teamwork, yay!
10:35:35 AM EST - Eberon
On a non-standard note, it's great to see that some projects are working together. As some parts of these projects become finished before others, it's a good thing that many of our modification teams are swapping members and helping each other out. For those of you who have decided to enter this situation, our hat is off to you!

Congratulations to the Aquinas Hub, and more updates!
10:32:19 AM EST - Eberon
Congratulations go to the Aquinas Hub for reaching 1,000 hits in just around a week!

New at their site is a review of DXMP_Atlantis2 (an improvement on the original) by Rigel_Denton. Csana has also been busy, and has a DXMP Count Castle review. Last but not least, there is a review of DXMP_Towers.

And Blamer, being the open-minded guy that he is, has updated his Article on balance in DXMP with some new thoughts after having some feedback from readers. Enjoy, and once again, congrats AH!

Blade Runner in need of help.
10:24:01 AM EST - Eberon
The Blade Runner mod is in need of a good texture artist. Send samples and your application to Quax.

Update: it seems that they are also in need of coders and mappers. Send your info their way to help out!

Sunday, April 15, 2001

The Aquinas Hub never stops!
12:56:35 AM EST - Eberon

Saturday, April 14, 2001

New community site.
10:10:18 AM EST - Eberon
There's a new community site over at Planet Deus Ex called the Eve of Destruction. It can be found here. A sample from their web page:
Eve of Destruction combines the personal fear and loathing of Taxi Driver and American Psycho with the idealistic terrorist acts of Glamorama and Fight Club. There will be explosions, there will be death, but it's far from your regular first-person-shooter slaughterfests.

Sounds great! Get on over there and check it out.

Klystron project updates and moves.
10:05:40 AM EST - Eberon
The Klystron Project has moved to Planet Deus Ex, and in celebration of their move, they have a nice "Picmix" online. Check it out here.

Thursday, April 12, 2001

The Klystron Project updates.
7:10:17 PM EST - Eberon
The Klystron Project, a new and pretty good looking mod (if I may say so) has two colormaps for the SERP. They would love it if you would go there and check them out, and tell them your preference in the same place.

Luminous Path has two new maps!
7:08:24 PM EST - Eberon
Our good friends over at Deus Ex Center are reporting that the Luminous Path have released two new maps, DXMP_Towers and DXMP_NYCBar. Since I don't have an address for the Luminous Path (eek! someone give me one!), you can get them from Deus Ex Center's downloads section.

Congratulations, Ravaged!
6:53:10 PM EST - Eberon
Ravaged Entertainment has hit the 10,000 hits mark today (or just recently). Congratulations go out to them for their excellent work!

Aquinas Hub has more for you today!
6:51:47 PM EST - Eberon
The Aquinas Hub sends word that they have new content today. There's an article written by Blamer about the faults of DXMP, most specifically, its imbalances. Be sure to give it a looksee.

New mod based on Blade Runner
10:27:09 PM EST - Eberon
There's a new mod in town, and its formal name is Blade Runner : Predator's Night. It's being hosted by the wonderfully generous D-X.org people, and can be found here.

Perhaps some of the most interesting features of the project include your role and the twisting plot. The player is a replicant trying to survive in the world. I can't wait to see this project come to fruition, but they need your help to do so! e-mail them with offers.

A reminder; mappers needed!
10:19:56 PM EST - Eberon
Just a reminder: The Cassandra Project needs a level designer. If you have the talent, please apply!

Two new community sites.
10:14:15 PM EST - Eberon
Two new sites have opened up at our partners in cr.. er, conspiracy, Planet Deus Ex.

The first site, named The Aquinas Hub, is a DXMP site that covers tactics, maps, and many other things, all DXMP related. Be sure to read thoroughly and as always, do not operate heavy machinery afterwards.

The second site, called Deus Ex Legacy, and it is all about mapping. More specficially, it contains a map from the author, titled Gravel Pit and will continue to host new maps as the creator finishes them.

It's a great day for DXMP!

Deus Fortress updates!
7:24:54 PM EST - Eberon
Sorry in getting this out a little late, but EternalSpark sends word that the Deus Fortress site now has around 12 new models, 4 new map shots, and two wallpapers made by fans. Definitely get over there if you haven't already and partake in the goodies!

Cold Hearted receives a warm reception
8:24:51 PM EST - Eberon
After being mentioned in Gulf News, project lead of the Cold Hearted mod has been receiving many encouraging e-mails. One of the most interesting ones was, apparently, an Ion Storm hater:
Nice game name and I HOPE U KICK ION STORMS ASS AND THEIR CRAPPY DEUS EX 2.
Oh my.

Warren Spector Q&A
8:11:38 PM EST - Eberon
The MGON Network, who happens to host community site Deus Ex Center, have a pretty fairly sized list of questions and answers that ask Warren Spector about his feelings on the gaming industry. It's a good read, and can be found here.

Thank you PDX for the heads-up!

10:08:51 PM EST - Eberon
Hey! The X-strain has a couple new screenshots today.

There's a new title song remix here that is supposedly pretty good! I have yet to check it out yet.

Planet Deus Ex reminds us that their map design contest is still running and that entries can be submitted for approximately one more month.

DX Editing has a review of Locke's DXMP Skyline. It was given an 88%! Congratulations Locke on a great score for your first work.

Want a little more information about that mysterious MP server running, hosted by the Gamespy network? Find it here.

I'm very happy to say that I no longer have to use a site sucking program to view the Universal Constructor's excellent tutorials. They now have a downloadable cfm (windows html help format) file for you to use! Get it here.

The Redsun 2020 mod has posted an update, telling us that the TMG level is almost done, and also says that the new site still has some kinks that should be worked out by Monday. Stay tuned to their site for more information.

The Ultimate guide to Deus Ex Editing
7:25:25 PM EST - Eberon
Attention all of you who aspire to be a mod designer and receive fame and fortune! The Universal Constructor has what they call the Ultimate Guide to Deus Ex Editing, and boy is it deserving of that title. For any of you who wanted to get started from the ground up on Deus Ex modding, this is exactly what you need.

Cassandra Project updates
7:18:38 PM EST - Eberon
Our hosted mod, The Cassandra Project has updated with a couple more goodies. First, there's a rendered shot of the Sig P228-SD1. Along with that is a very interesting recording of a conversation between some of the characters. It's very excellently written.

Also there is a new entry in the diary section that can be found here. We're happy to see that the team members have gotten back together again to work hard on the project! If you haven't yet seen the site, be sure to check it out right here.

A somewhat strange direction
7:10:34 PM EST - Eberon
Hmm. Looking Klystron up at Dictionary.com (I knew the word sounded familiar), the definition of a Klystron is as follows:
klystron n : an electron tube used to generate or amplify electromagnetic radiation in the microwave region by velocity modulation
Hmm. Perhaps it has something to do with physics?

Two new mods announced!
7:08:45 PM EST - Eberon
There are two new modification projects that have been started.

The first one is called Immortality. Strangely, the project lead is going to pull the plug on the mod if no new team members join. I suppose that's one way to grab people, eh? Their site can be found here.

Another is dubbed The Klystron Project, but I haven't been able to find much information (I only heard from someone that it was around). I'll keep looking for information on this one.

Convergence wants YOUR help!
8:33:28 PM EST - Eberon
Raison Varner, Music and Sound composer for the Deus Ex Convergence mod sends a call for assistance with their mod. Here's what he had to say:

Deus Ex: Convergence

We are actively seeking a person to become our webmaster. Someone who will be able to handle the creation, maintenance and updating of our website. We have texture artists that may be able to help with any graphics that are needed. And a musician for background music/ambience and sound effects for a final "flashed" site.

Our goal is to produce a site of surpassing professional quality, one that looks like we spent a lot of money on. The team is dedicated to delivering a professional quality mod and we are already in our alpha stages of development. We have a massive project underway and there will very rarely be a lack of material for our web master to use.

If you are interested, please send an email with some examples of your work, or links to websites you have created, to;

Straius@Bellatlantic.net

We are eager for new members and are looking forward to seeing some of your work.

Give them a ring if you can help them out!
