An image from Dune!
8:20:39 PM EST - Eberon
The people at the Dune mod have been kind enough to send out a render shot of the heavy machine gun from their fabulous project! Why doesn't it go into the sidebar instead? Well, because it's not exclusive. Nonetheless, it looks excellent and the staff of De-M are happy to hear from the team and know that work is progressing. Click on the image for a larger version:

Major updates at DXEditing
7:16:25 PM EST - Eberon
DXEditing, your swanky site for everything related to editing Deus Ex has a few updates this evening.

First and foremost, Stone, a reviewer and mapper for DXE has been forced to quit the job due to the fact that his ISP is dying. Stone leaves us a few goodbye presents, including a map called CTF_Nevada (non-functional CTF, but it still works for good old DXMP) and a review of DXMP_MCRamos. Godspeed, Stone. Have some strawberries for the road.

The good news is the two reviews released by DerianX, newly appointed head reviewer. There is a of DXMP_AmbrosiaMine and a review of

Face up to reality.
7:09:45 PM EST - Eberon
Face, one of the most promising DXMP mappers in the community, has written a long post at the Ion Storm boards with information regarding his departure. If you will remember, Face was the author of the very excellent and unfinished DXMP_HellsGate. Face left the community approximately four weeks ago due to a number of circumstances in the aforementioned post.

Sadly, at least for the fans, Face says he will not be coming back to the community any time soon. He has no desire or time to do so. He will definitely be missed by those of us who knew him, for he was truly a brilliant designer. Face was always cheerful and open to ideas and comments. The loss of him means a great loss to the entire fanbase. Best of wishes with your endeavours, Face.

Warren Interview on DX PS2
6:18:32 PM EST - BackDoorBandit
In case most of you didn't know, Warren Spector, Harvey Smith, and a few other ISA personnel demoed Deus Ex on the PS2 at E3 this year. Computer and Video Games had a chance to interview Mr. Spector on this latest incarnation of DX, and below is a snippet of that interview.

CVG: Will there be an Xbox version?
Warren Spector: No comment [laughs].

CVG: You’re already working on the sequel for PC, right? Warren Spector: We’re already working on the sequel, Deus Ex 2, as well as Thief 3. We were able to bring on many of the members of the Looking Glass crew [the original developer of the Thief series, now defunct]. They’re working down in Austin with me now, so there’s the Looking Glass connection already, which is really great. All we’re saying right now is that Deus Ex 2 and Thief 3 will be multi-platform. I don’t believe it’s possible just to be a PC developer any more and survive, just in the same way I don’t believe it’s possible to be just a PlayStation 2 or Xbox or Gamecube developer and survive. Costs are going up, team sizes are going up, sales, guess what, are not. We’re going to be on every platform we can without compromising the experience we want to give players. Multi-platform. We’re not going to be any more specific than that right now.

Back to Deus Ex, at this point we have a functioning interface and we now have months to go. We know the gameplay works because it won 35 Game of the Year awards. We know the story works, and we didn’t have to compromise that at all, because we won heaps of story awards. It’s not me bragging, it’s you guys; you like the game.

Huh uh...Now are you all putting the pieces of the puzzle together? :) The whole interview can be found right here.

Rumors Flying....Part 3
6:02:52 PM EST - BackDoorBandit
Just to take the scare out of all of this rumor stuff. The closing (if they DO close) of Ion Storm Dallas, DOESN'T affect the Ion Storm Austin offices.

If you were like me and put two and two together quickly after first reading the news of Ion Storm Dallas shutting down, then I know that thought was lingering in the back of your mind. I'm just trying to help you all, including myself, sleep a bit easier tonight :)

Warzone gets optimization & makeover.
1:11:15 PM EST - Eberon
The Warzone mod web page has been redone by a professional web designer by the name of Davy. For some cash, he'll tidy yours up and fix it too! Now if only he got the font color correct...

Arches tutorial at the UC
1:09:34 PM EST - Eberon
The Universal Constructor has a new tutorial on arches, written by Xlax. Credit for isnpiration goes to McDonald's

Rumors flying! -- Part 2.
1:06:14 PM EST - Eberon
Rumors abound again, and again they are false. While not entirely related to Deus Ex, news was published both by Shacknews and Blue's News that the Ion Storm Dallas offices will be shutting down and that Arachronox, their current title, has just gone gold. The fact is that neither of these rumors are true. A small blurb at The Adrenaline Vault confirms that word from John Romero disputes these unfounded claims.

Just thought I'd keep you guys up to date :)

De-M quizzes.
9:14:05 PM EST - Eberon
There's another quiz up this evening, this one by W.S. Thune, who you might recognize from the ISBB and our own forums. This quiz is titled The Ultimate Deus Ex Feline Quiz. Be sure to check it out, along with our previous addition from Gravedigger/Bogeyman in our quiz section.

Convergence update.
9:12:39 PM EST - Eberon
Convergence has an update this evening: A returning team member, Wolf, who is supposedly the Unreal mapping master, and news that the new content previously spoke about should be available on Friday. I can't wait!

Evening news.
8:02:53 PM EST - Eberon
First of all, a little site news: There are some goodies forthcoming! There just seems to be a hiccup in the system at the moment, but when the person in question gets his act together (no, not BDB or anyone from TTLG :)) we'll be able to publish the things we've been working on! There's also a column coming from me very soon that will be released twice. The first column entry will be an introduction, and the second will be the first of many :) Look forward to these goodies!

Secondly, Redsun2020 has been doing some maintenance. They've updated some of their links and also updated their about section. Check it out!

Redsun2020 updates.
11:41:53 PM EST - Eberon
The Redsun2020 project has posted an update to their site. The level count in their project is sixteen! On their site is a list with the order that you'll play the levels in. Personally, I can't wait to play the Galaxy Disco level :)

New flavors of Deus Ex.
8:14:41 PM EST - Eberon
There are a few "mini-mods" so to speak that have recently been released.

The first one I heard about through our partners at PDX. There is apparently something called the [NSF] mod at invisibleonline.net. What does it do? It adds new weapons to your DXMP experience. As far as I can tell, all you have to do to enable this is download the maps and run them. All the files can be found here.

Secondly, even though the link went missing at Deus Ex Ed a few days ago, Gamespy was gracious enough to mirror it. Be forewarned: I tried it with the latest version of the game and it seems a little screwy. If you don't mind possibly having to reinstall Deus Ex, I'd give it a go! The weapons are pretty fun to mess with.

New map at Deus Ex Ed.
8:00:05 PM EST - Eberon
This is short and sweet. Deus Ex Ed has a new map by Liquid Snake called Mystery of Ziliphore. The description follows:
You must save your brother from the evil police man. Download the map and save your brother now!
Sounds like fun, at least. Grab it here. If anyone plays this and feels up to telling me exactly where the Mystery is in the level, I'd appreciate it. I don't bite.

New exclusive screenie.
7:46:23 PM EST - Eberon
Well, I know you've all probably been tired of staring at a knife, so we have something new! To your left you'll notice that there's now a teeny screenshot of something very neat: an exclusive snapshot of a Redsun2020 level! Big thanks to the team from that project for allowing us to have it :)

Since the Dune project seems to have slipped into limbo, I've decided to open that little side area into an interesting exclusive screenshots section. Would you like to have your project featured to the left of the news for an entire week straight? contact me and we'll set you up!

More tutorials at the UC
2:12:04 PM EST - Eberon
The UC has more goodies today. There's a tutorial on the 2D shape editor. If you have any requests for tutorial topics, you're asked to post them to the UC Forums.

The Ultimate Beginner's Guide to DX Editing has been updated with some info on rotating objects as well. I tried to figure this out myself a few weeks ago and never did. (No thanks to you #dxediting people, either! >:( )

Warren Spector Interview
1:38:10 PM EST - BackDoorBandit
Warren has reeled off another interview over at joystick101.org. He doesn't reveal anything new to us fans that have read his 100+ interviews that are already on the www, but he does reiterate some his very well thought out gaming philosophy. Here's a piece of the interview that I really liked:

Joystick101.org: At GDC this year, there was a lot of talk about giving players the tools to modify or create their own gaming environments. With the success of The Sims, and the buzz around Multiplayer gaming, some critics seemed to downplay the importance of authorial control in gaming. Where do you see single-player gaming headed?

WS: It drives me nuts every time I hear someone talk about multiplayer gaming as The Future! We've barely scratched the surface of single-player gaming. Having said that, I HOPE the future of the single-player experience involves downplaying the importance of the author. What I mean is simply that gaming is unique among media in its ability to allow users to interact with the author, as much as with the author's creations. But we have to be careful how we exploit that unique capability. Developers can bound player experience but we often go too far -- determining player experience as we would if we were writing a novel or making a movie. Developers shouldn't abdicate all authorial responsibility but we have to find ways to allow player choice and player action -- for genuine collaboration between players and authors. We have to leave as much room as we can for players to express themselves through their interactions with the worlds we create. The art in gaming lies in the tension between the elements we put in our gameworlds and what players choose to do with those elements. The developers who get that -- the ones who aren't just making expensive, sophisticated pick-a-path books or movies where you get to determine what the next shot is -- are the ones who will expand the boundaries of this new art form.

Can anyone say, "Harvey Smith"? He's definitely got my vote. You can get the whole interview here.

2:51:30 PM EST - Eberon
The Aquinas Hub has another slew of updates today, including a preview of an upcoming map, DXMP_Daves. It's looking mighty sharp so far, so be sure to give it a looksee. There are four screenshots included.

Clans - There is a fairly large clans database update as well. Generation DX [GDX], Chicken Dancing Psychos [CDP], and cold [c] have been added, and [c22] has an updated members list. Find the database here.

Denton's Databank is one year old!
10:30:46 AM EST - Eberon
Yesterday, Denton's Databank, a huge resource for information including walkthroughs, turned one year. Send your congratulations/best wishes/death threats in this thread

Sigh....
10:24:12 AM EST - Eberon
I'm stuck in the Greasel Game. I just can't seem to make it past this part...

Momma Greasel don't like me :(

More Redsun2020 news!
10:06:52 AM EST - Eberon
Wow! After their redesign, I'm happy to see that Redsun2020 is back in their torrent of news posting! What's new? Well, the Greasel Game is back, and you can play it here!

Another announcements from the team include word that new snapshots will be coming some time in June, after the team has put the final spit n' polish on the maps.

Also forthcoming is a section of their site called Tokyo News. which will give you an in-game, in-character look at the things going on in the world of Redsun2020.

I'll get back to newsposting after I've played plenty of the Greasel Game.

New tutorial at Deus Ex Ed
12:50:34 AM EST - Eberon
Deus Ex Ed has a new tutorial today, a pretty simple one, on how to change the splash screen that shows up when you're loading Deus Ex. If you're like me, it really doesn't matter, because you only have to stare at it for a few seconds, but for those of you who sit through longer load times, you might want to put something else on there. Perhaps a hot babe? ;)

Larger than life.
7:12:20 PM EST - Eberon
Well, larger than a real live thumb anyway. Redsun2020 has a fully functional snapshots section. What can you see there? Well, you guessed it, there's snapshots of the game! They are finally in larger format for your drooling pleasure. Head on over there and take a gander.

The real Game of the Year.
7:09:52 PM EST - Eberon
I have a secret to share with you. It is such a deep and dark secret that only a few members of MJ12 know it. Well, there's me, too. What is the secret?

Deep within the chambers of the Ion Storm Austin offices, before development on Deus Ex was another game. What was it called? It was called The Greasel Game. Its principal design concepts were strategy, stealth, and sharpshooting. What was the name of the game? Shooting Greasels.

Sadly, the Greasel Game was canned in favor of a really tamed down version where the player controls a walking bionically enhanced agent that tromps through real-world locations like New York and Paris *yawn*.

Thankfully, the project was grabbed from the hard drive of an Ion Storm employee just before it was reformatted to remove all evidence. Where can you see this game? You'll soon be able to play it at Redsun2020's website. Boy, I can't wait!

New Vampire screens.
4:08:22 PM EST - Eberon
The Deus Ex Vampire mod has new screens of their hunter's guild, meeting place, and vampire hunters' HQ in NYC maps. Check them out right here.

"You may fire when ready"
3:22:44 PM EST - Eberon
Unfortunately, these were the last words that the Star Wars Deus Ex mod heard before LucasArts' own Death Star blew them into pieces.

Yes, that's right, LucasArts shut down the SW Deus Ex mod. Our sympathies go out to the team members who worked hard to formulate a plan and an idea. We hope that you won't let this discourage you from remaining in the community. After all, there are tons of projects that could use your talent!

Again, the staff of DeusEx-Machina are deeply troubled and sad to hear of this news. May the force be with you all..

Here's your chance to become known!
3:09:30 PM EST - Eberon
The Aquinas Hub is looking for content writers right now! Get an idea of what you'll be doing from the articles section of the site. Have your own idea about how you want to contribute? Try pitching it! All applications can be sent to Csana. Make sure that you use the subject "Application" when mailing!

New mod announced: "Sleepwalking"
11:03:03 PM EST - Eberon
There's a new hosted site at PDX and this one's a modification project called Sleepwalking. In addition to their amazingly cool opening page, there's also a very interesting story behind the project. A snippet follows:
It's the year 1916. You're James Monroe, a detective working for a secret paranormal investigations branch of the Scotland Yard. There have been reports of some paranormal activity taking place in London...
Team members are needed! See information about their needs on their team page.

Welcome, Sleepwalking!

New map, new remote web. admin pack.
10:57:46 PM EST - Eberon
There's a lot of new stuff at the DEA site! First and foremost, there's a new map by El Kabong called DXMP_NYC_Streets! Be sure to check that out. There's also the remote web. admin pack version 1.0 from Neo. Get both of these in the files section here.

Administrative codes have been added to the "Server Stuff" section here.

And lastly, there is an update to the memorable moments section, DEA's place for interesting and funny screenshots.

Got the soundtrack? I supply the rest.
8:54:05 PM EST - Eberon
Hope that doesn't sound too snotty :) I just finished inputting the title and authors for the music tracks on the soundtrack CD that was included with the GOTY Edition. I have submitted the names to the CDDB and Windows Media service, so that you *should* be able to simply use the features contained within your preferred CD playing program to get the track names. Rock on!

IGN PC puts its tail between its legs.
1:57:51 PM EST - Eberon
IGN PC, a possible source of the misinformation regarding the Deus Ex and Thief III release plans, has posted a retraction. They blame the mistake on "miscommunication". Perhaps it was minterpretation of the information to have the best news first? Who knows. Here's a snippet:
We talked to a representative of the company today and received this response: "Just like Deus Ex shipped on the PC and Mac concurrently, Deus Ex 2 and Thief 3, will ship simultaneously on multiple platforms." So that pretty much puts all of that to rest, and we're actually quite happy about seeing as how we're PC folks and all. Take that, console-freaks!
The entire article can be found here.

The Taffer's Post - Reflections of a Blue Sky
7:01:53 AM EST - Dan
Rather then post the Taffer's Post here, I have turned it into a column. Maybe because it's very long, or maybe because I think calling myself a columnist is cool. At any rate, here it is:

The Taffer's Post - Reflections of a Blue Sky

The topic meanders from work to school to CoSaS to D&D to TTLG and back again. I hope you enjoy the insane ramblings of the chap who thinks psychoticness is a talent rather then a serious mental handycap. If you'd like to comment on this post, and please do so, run over to the forum version instead..

Wrath of Halo gets a makeover!
10:56:25 PM EST - Eberon
The Wrath of Halo site has received a makeover this evening, and it looks much, much better! Any thoughts and comments can be sent to Gluestick, as well as applications for a modeling position that is needed :)

DX Vampire move and team additions.
7:10:32 PM EST - Eberon
DX Vampire has a small news update today, telling us of their new address (see above) and a new member of the team, Pheonix, who will be working on the office and city sections of the game.

The staff of DeusEx-Machina would like to say happy birthday to Damocles as well! Best wishes!

New strategy article at the Aquinas Hub.
7:06:58 PM EST - Eberon
Another excellent article is online at the Aquinas Hub today. This one was written by SilentFire and details Face's "DXMP_Towers" map. Check it out right here.

More Deus Ex Publicity
10:48:47 AM EST - BackDoorBandit
Pecker (that's the name of the gentleman who contacted me...you think I could make this stuff up?) sent me a link to the Ion Storm Boards that has some information about an interview that Warren Spector did back in August of 2000. Although none of the information is really new to any of us hardcore DX fans, it still is a very interesting read with some screenshots of DX when it was in its development stage. It looks like Warren is starting the marketing campaign in time for the PS2 release of DX. Below are the links to the interview and screenies.

Harvey Smith's view on E3.
3:30:19 PM EST - Eberon
Harvey Smith, Director on Deus Ex 2 and much-loved ISA team member has updated his personal site today with his feelings and experiences at E3. There are many interesting notes, including this one:
At the restaurant McCormick and Schmick, our waiter overheard us say, "...the industry" and assumed that Warren was a film producer bigwig. After that, the waiter was drooling and dropping all these little hints, like, "I'm an actor! Want to see my headshot photos? I was in an episode of Star Trek once!" It was amusing. Ah, LA.
Head over to witchboy's cauldron for the scoop. Neat stuff there! :)

New mesh at Deus Ex Ed.
11:57:13 PM EST - Eberon
Deus Ex Ed has a new mesh available this evening. It's called "Futuristic Elf". The note from the author, BrotherDeath, follows:
Might as well post this, i'm making it for Quake 3, but I give permission to everyone for use in a mod if they want to. It's not skinned, but I provided a 384x384 wiremap, and a .3ds file for those wanting to use it. Hope ya like it!

Planet Deus Ex problems.
11:55:10 PM EST - Eberon
Planet Deus Ex seems to be having some problems this evening. I hope they get them ironed out!

For those of you who may have had problems with our site in the past, you may have wondered why. Basically, 99% of our site errors result from our poll scripts being screwy. It's not the fault of the technology, but rather the fault of my stupid forgetful mind! If you ever have troubles with the site in any way, shape, or form, e-mail me. I am the webmaster.

Words from Warren
3:12:38 PM EST - Eberon
Warren Spector posted to our forums this morning about the recent announcements and hoopla that has been going on.
It never ceases to amaze me how quickly rumors spread in this business and how willing people are to accept rumor as fact.

Right now, there are rumors circulating on the net that Deus Ex 2 and Thief 3 will ship on console first, with PC "ports" coming later. That is simply not true. Let me assure you that we have no plans to release a console version of DX2 or T3 before a PC version or to compromise one version to accomodate the needs of any other version we might develop.

Both DX2 and T3 are a ways off -- making immersive simulations takes time! -- and official announcements regarding these projects will be made in the future. Until then, let me just say that the members of the DX2 and T3 teams, many of whom helped create the original Thief and Deus Ex, are determined to meet and surpass your justifiably high expectations.

Everyone in this studio is as committed to making games like Underworld, System Shock, Thief and Deus Ex as you are committed to playing them. The vehemence with which you've expressed your concern is ample evidence that you love these games as much as we do. All I ask is that you trust us now as you always have in the past. You won't be disappointed...
Well, there you have it. Nothing to worry about, fans. We can put a little credit to ISA's team after giving us Deus Ex, can't we? :)

A reminder.
7:47:54 PM EST - Eberon
Please, fellow fans, if you sign the Deus Ex 2 Petition be sensible. Your name is far more valuable and credible on the list than your name and the comment "CONSOLES SUCK!". Please be sensible and honest when you sign the petition.

If you haven't signed the petition and are angered by the recent news that Deus Ex 2 (and Thief III) will be developed for console systems first, head on over and please do so.

Damn! Awesome Brothers update.
7:40:00 PM EST - Eberon
Brothers, a mod project that has taken many different directions and turns during its life seems to have settled down. In fact, they've settled down into a NEW SITE DESIGN that quite simply kicks ass! There's a new flash introduction, a new site design, a new story, and, in short, the face of the project has been entirely changed. Check out their tricked out website and new stuffs here.

Convergence news.
7:29:32 PM EST - Eberon
The Convergence team is almost complete! The positions that remain to be filled are mappers (2), a weapons modeler, a skinner, and a texturist.

If you are an aspiring team member with no website to show your work on, make a note with your application that samples of your work are available "upon request". MAKE SURE that you have samples of your work; they are required!

All applications can be sent here. Descriptions of each position can be found on the convergence web site's latest news post.

The Aquinas Hub polls.
4:41:15 PM EST - Eberon
The Aquinas Hub has a new poll this evening asking: What is your average ping in DXMP? Be sure to get over there and vote! Comments from the last poll, asking which heavy weapon was the fans' favorite can be found here.

New tutorials at Deus Ex Ed.
7:37:39 PM EST - Eberon
Deus Ex Ed, a website for all of your Deus Ex Editing needs has two new tutorials this evening. The first is adding light switches, and the second is adding doors to your map. Enjoy!

A note on the Ion forums.
11:16:00 AM EST - Eberon
I reported earlier that Deus Ex Ed reported that the Ion Storm forums had just reopened. This is partially true. The archive, the old posts and topics, are now available. The Ion forums, as I have been told by many of the Ion forum-goers, have been operational for a long time. This is what I figured, but not being a visitor, I have no way of knowing for sure. Yanno? Got it.

GOTY FAQ at DeusEx-Machina.
11:05:42 AM EST - Eberon
I've put up a small FAQ that details the Game of the Year Edition of Deus Ex. It was written by TechImmortal, who you may recognize from our quiz section.

See the FAQ here.

Convergence gains two new members.
10:54:55 AM EST - Eberon
Convergence has two new members! They are Deusmax and Froggie. Straight from the newspost:
DeusMax will be joining us as our resident Animator/Scenery Modeler. He has worked extensively with mods contriubuting to a number of projects out there, both commercial and personal. We are very excited to have him aboard and adding his expertise to our team.

Froggie will be joining us as a texturist. We have been in sore need of another for a while now and I can hear Danimal's sigh of relief all the way from here. He shows great promise. Representing France in all it's glory he is taking us a step closer to possibly becoming DX's most politically correct mod out there. ;-)

Deus Ex 2 petition.
9:46:07 AM EST - Eberon
Graeme Wood, aka "Pecker" has started up a petition that he would like me to post news of. His proposal/plea follows:
The Deus Ex community was dealt a devastating blow yesterday with the announcement that Deus Ex 2 was being created primarily for consoles then being ported to the PC. The community strongly disagrees with the actions of both Eidos and Ion Storm, believing that the game should be developed for PC's first then ported to consoles at a later date. As a result we have created an online petition in the hope Ion Storm and Eidos may change their decision. We are doing this for the good of the game; we want to see it being of a quality as high if not higher than the original, we don't want business decisions and money to influence people's decisions.
It should be noted before the fanatics go crazy that this decision seems to be mostly based upon technical issues. While we would all love to look at the people in the industry that upset us as moneygrubbing pigs, I am certain that Eidos and Ion Storm (Ion especially), who love creating games have not and will not magically turn into moneygrubbing pigs after one decision.

I share the anger of some fans that say "PC users are getting screwed by getting a stupid port", however, I think that we should gather all the facts before we enter the "rage" state.

Having said that, you can sign Pecker's petition here.

Terrible, horrible news.
4:45:03 PM EST - Eberon
(entire post quoted from our own Digital Nightfall, who posted to the circle about Thief III)

Accoring to this post, Deus Ex 2 will be released for the [console systems] first.

I am utterly furious. This is so disgusting, revolting, putrid, and otherwise mind-blowingly appalling, I am at a loss for words.

(I couldn't have said it better myself)

The poll closes, the poll opens.
11:39:35 AM EST - Eberon
What's the last part of that Grim Fandango quote? I can't remember. tell me, please.

To get down to business, though, the poll entitled "What would you most like to see improved in Deus Ex 2?" has closed. The results are below:

Enemy AI: 36.8% -- 140 votes
Graphics/Music/SFX: 14.5% -- 55 votes
Performance: 18.2% -- 69 votes
Storyline: 9.7% -- 37 votes
Longevity: 20.8% -- 79 votes

Thanks to everyone for voting! The next poll will be up in a couple of hours.

Forum happenings.
11:28:38 AM EST - Eberon
Talk is abuzz in our forums lately. Orgy points out a strange instance where the quoted source (Voodoo Extreme) refers to JC Denton as "Jack" Denton. See the thread here.

Ion Storm Forums back online.
11:06:28 AM EST - Eberon
I can neither confirm nor refute this because I am not a frequent visitor of these forums, but Deus Ex Ed reports that the Ion Storm forums are back online after a "long closure", and can be found here.

More Wireless Redsun2020
12:22:31 AM EST - Eberon
Redsun 2020 has an update on their web-enabled site. For you eastern hemisphere peoples, an I-MODE version of the wireless Redsun2020 is at this address: http://www.redsun2020.com/i/. A word from Scoopa on his plans for the wireless versions follows:
I also plan to use the sites as real life datacubes! I mean, the wireless web is the closest thing we have to the Deus Ex datacubes, so people can now view the redsun site like they would if they were really IN Deus Ex! I will put goodies like "E-Mails" from Redsun 2020 characters, and maybe even some games... we will have to wait and see.

ARX Fatalis and StygianAbyss.com
10:33:11 PM EST - Dan
Good evening, Deus Ex Machinas.

I am looking for a fan. I am looking for the most enthusiastic and dedicated fan of Ultima Underworld there is. I need someone who is waiting with tremendous anticipation for the game Arx Fatalis, pouring over every preview and interview, and studying each screenshot in minute detail.

As you should know if you have read today's previous post (on TTLG.com) Arx Fatalis will be shown at E3 tomorrow (and this weekend) and there will undoubtedly be a great deal of media released surrounding this game. This would be the best time to open TTLG's Arx Fatalis fansite.

But I need a webmaster for this site. I would much rather the person who will be running this site take part in its finishing and opening. The Arx website will be located at www.StygianAbyss.com, which will also be host to all of our Ultima Underworld content. As you can see, the website design is already there, as well as some structuring. However it is not finished. (I had attempted to make it into a general fantasy gaming news site, but I have changed my mind.)

I would prefer that the webmaster for this site be someone who is already involved in the TTLG community and forums, but I am open to anyone. HTML skill is a requirement for the webmaster, and until the news script is coded (we'll have to update it by hand until then) so will the entire staff. I would also prefer someone who is familiar with Ultima Underworld, but again, that is not a requirement. I would like to get at least three people for the webmaster position. I'll decide which of you is the "leader" of the group after I have worked with you all for a bit. :)

Time is of the essence. I'd like to get this site fully operational as close to E3 as possible. Please contact me!

And just become I love to show this game off, here's a list of my very favorite screenshots:

Don't know what the hell Arx Fatalis is? Read TTLG's article on it. It also has more screenshots. :)

New team member for Deus Ex Vampire.
10:22:34 PM EST - Eberon
Deus Ex Vampire has a new team member today, Laurie Cutler, aka Active_Assassin. He will be creating decorative and equipment based models for the team.

Star Wars DX gains two members.
10:19:02 PM EST - Eberon
Star Wars DX has two new coders on the team, but every other position still needs to be filled! Get over to the crew page. Help them, for you are their only hope...

New site in the works.
10:16:21 PM EST - Eberon
There's a new site in the works, called the Co-Op Project. Our good friends at Convergence will be hosting it. To describe a little about the site, I will quote Straius:
This will be a collaboration between any coder from any mod team out there who would be interested in joining the combined brilliance of the DX community. While we will be hosting the site it will not be our property, we're merely a means to an end on this one. Any work that is produced from this project will be available to all mods, similar to the work of TeamUC.
Excellent! Yay teamwork yay!

Redsun 2020 needs a skinner.
10:13:03 PM EST - Eberon
Redsun2020, a popular Deus Ex modification recently returned from the depths of design hell needs a skinner! If you are willing to help, send your information right here. More details can be found in their help section.

Another interesting feature recently added to Redsun 2020 is support for web-enabled phones! If you have one of these, point your phone to http://www.redsun2020.com/wap.wml for brief news updates and progress info.

New multiplayer map at Deus Ex Ed.
10:10:12 PM EST - Eberon
Deus Ex Ed, site for all things in the Deus Ex Editing world, has a new map today called DXMP_Complex. The description follows:
4 story, 12 room hotel, looking over a little grove for perfect sniper shots and endless fun. Along with 4 cameras and turrets, 4 other buildings, great showdow hiding, and much much much much more. All from Panik.
Grab it here.

Deus Ex PS2 information.
10:07:29 PM EST - Eberon
A preview of DX PS2 appeared on the IGN network yesterday. A snippet:
Developed by Ion Storm-Austin, Deus Ex wraps gamers up in a deep, surprising action thriller, replete with RPG elements, that provides the ability to build and personalize a complex alter ego during the course of the game. Slated for a winter 2001 release on PS2, this revised, refocused version of the game offers several alterations, modifications, and improvements over the PC version.
There are a few screenshots there, but none of them do the real thing justice. Perhaps a video trailer will be released one day, and the PC users will get to drool over the motion capture technology ;) Read the preview here.

DX Level Design
1:08:50 PM EST - BackDoorBandit
Gamespot's Question of the Week asks, "Which game has the best level design?" In the answers provided, Deus Ex gets a noteable mention.

What part of Deus Ex's level design do you find extremely noteworthy? Share your comments with us in the TTLG Deus Ex forums

Ion Storm Austin at E3
10:17:00 AM EST - BackDoorBandit
Ion Storm Austin, the makers of DX (of course), will only be showing one title at this years E3. Can you guess what it is?

It's simply the PS2 version of DX. I was told that the PS2 version looks even better than the original PC version due to the higher poly count and newly coded animations put into it. I will keep you all updated as news about DX on the PS2 rolls out.

On another note, Ion Storm Austin is currently working on Deus Ex 2, Thief 3, and a rumored 3rd project. None of these will be shown at E3. Deus Ex 2 and Thief 3 are still in pre-production stages. Besides, I was also informed that they're going to keep tight lipped about both projects...they don't want any secrets about the games to be leaked.

Indecision makes a decision.
12:23:41 AM EST - Eberon
The team of Indecision has an all-new About section with a Developer's letter, information on the storyline, and their amazing list of features. Also in the About section are pictures of the weapons, pictures of the maps, and some concept art!

Visit the Indecision site for the goods!

Midnight forums are online!
11:25:44 PM EST - Eberon
Midnight has a new message board that fans can speak their mind out on. Just remember to keep it civil!

Redsun2020 is live again.
11:24:20 PM EST - Eberon
The Redsun2020 site has been totally redesigned again. This time, Scoopa dropped most of the javascript that was causing some troubles, but have no fear, the Greasel game will return!

Scoopa also reports that the TMG and Kamikaze HQ levels are complete, save for extra tweaks that will increase the frame rate from its currently unacceptable levels. Work continues on the Disco levels and a new version of the Bank level. Otemachi Labs part 1 is complete, and part 2 is only partially complete.

New map from Lostmaster.
9:05:22 PM EST - Eberon
Lostmaster, a certified mapping guru has finally released his map called "The Lost City". Grab it from his excellent website here.

Whee -- new content
8:56:36 PM EST - Eberon
Here's what you can look forward to in the coming weeks from DeusEx-Machina:
  • Interview with the main writer of Deus Ex 1 and 2, Sheldon Pacotti
  • A followup interview with the Deus Ex team that will discuss even more of the references and fascinating things contained within Deus Ex 1 (see: original article)
  • Secret project 1: Something very special and interesting regarding our newly added Quiz section
  • Secret project 2: Preview of Deus Ex 2 based on stolen beta code (just kidding!)
  • Continual site tweaks, additions, and maintenance.
And much, much more! The interview with Mr. Pacotti will be posted in a few days after things are cleared and we are given the go. The follow-up interview/article will come a little bit later, since the staff of Ion will obviously be busy getting their act together for E3. The rest.. who knows! Keep watching our news page for details.

Convergence experiencing technical difficulties.
8:06:31 PM EST - Eberon
But thankfully, none that are serious! Straius informs us that the e-mail accounts set up for the site are non-functional currently, but that they should be up and running within a week or so. In the meantime, Straius can be contacted at this address.

New Quiz!
8:01:59 PM EST - Eberon
DeusEx-Machina.com is proud to present the latest quiz, creatively titled "Quiz #4"! Finish the game before you enter the Quiz section!

Update at Counterfeit
4:22:20 PM EST - Eberon
Counterfeit, a project which has recently lost (literally) its webmaster, has an update today:
Okay, guys, since I still haven't heard from KGB, it looks like I'll have to get with the program. I'm updating now to tell you that there's a lot of new content ready for viewing, and it'll be up on the site within the next few days. From there, I'll only have about a month of work to do before you guys get to see a playable demo of Counterfeit. And after that, it'll be smooth sailing until the project is 100% done. So hold on to your pants - there will be something playable out soon, and there will be some new eye candy up on the site even sooner. And things are looking great so far. There's plenty of playing time available in the beginning UNRC HQ level alone, so don't expect this mod to fall short on playability. Anyway, you can do little more than take my word for it for now. I guess the lot of you just need to hurry up and wait for that demo!
To summarize: Visuals coming in a couple of days, project near completion. Roughly one more month until playable version of Counterfeit. Promises of lots of playability.

Sounds great though. I can't wait for the first interactive release!

Eve of Destruction updates.
4:47:56 PM EST - Eberon
Eve of Destruction, one of the newer mod projects in the works has an update today! Here's what the project lead had to say:
Ok, sorry I haven't updated the site for a while. Been busy with school (and will be until the term ends), but a new site design is under construction as well as updated info on the MOD. I've received mails from lots of interested mappers, artists, a sound guy and even a composer, but nothing's certain yet. The new design also includes a team-page, so expect to see more details on the team members along with the new site.
The team is still looking for mappers, coders, artists, modelers, and sound technicians!

Modeler needed for DXMP Map.

Convergence online!
10:57:48 PM EST - Eberon
The long-awaited Convergence web site is now online at Convergencemod.com. Word of this comes from the project leader, Straius. Here's the official announcement:
Deus Ex: Convergence is now up and running! We have completed our website and just recently uploaded it to our new domain name. We were formerly known as Covert Operations and have since scrapped that old project and begun on somethign completely new and a hell of a lot mroe interesting. We will have frequent updates and we already have a preview of some of the music that we have been developing for our mod. So check out the webpage and see if you have the stuff to join Deus Ex:Convergence.
Convergence is looking for recruits! Visit this link for more information on what the team is looking for.

What a truly awesome site design. Make sure that you go over and see this one. Also, I highly recommend that you install the font on the site. It makes the news look oh-so-much-better.

Welcome back, Convergence!

This week's Got Ghand.
10:33:59 PM EST - Eberon
For those of you who do not know what Got Ghand is, I struggle to describe it. It is full of sometimes weird, sometimes classic humor. It contains many defaced and parodied images from Deus Ex. It contains thoughts from the twisted Ghandaiah himself. Straight from the announcement at PDX...
I bring to you PDX fans a shocking new display of action, drama, romance, and twelve-fingered people. And cheese. And sporks. And rats. And everything else I'm starting to get known for obsessing over around here. So read it! Smack this link with a cinder block to gouge into its fleshy existence. And watch your back! The weird factor can be lethal.
And indeed it is almost lethal. I barely made it through the piece with 20 medkits and my environmental resistance aug turned on! Check it out here.

Bored? Check out our goods.
8:43:13 PM EST - Eberon
Tired of waiting for those ambitious but unfinished mods to be released? Just finished playing through for the 10th time and are tired of saving the world? One of the most little-known about sections of DeusEx-Machina is the Media section!

Screenshots - Within the Media section, we have some whacky screenshots from early versions of Deus Ex. Doesn't Hell's Kitchen look so much more colorful in the second picture? How about the early version of everybody's favorite weapon, the flamethrower? Scour through the screenshots we have there and try to spot the differences!

Artwork - Second in the Media section is our treasured artwork. There are lots of conceptual art pictures in this area, including the earliest versions of Anna, Gunther, and JC! My, how things changed since the pre-development stage.

Audio - Need your Deus Ex music fix? Get it in our sound area, where we have a sampling of mp3s for your enjoyment. Most of the music was composed by Alex Brandon from Ion Storm. Perhaps we will add more to the mix soon :)

Grab Bag - Last is the ambiguously titled "other" section, where we keep the odds and ends, and some of the most interesting stuff. Here you'll find early renders of JC, Paul, and some of the weapons as well as one of the most interesting items, a Deus Ex promo sheet from the E3 show in 1999. Look at those specs! Hard drive requirements: 100 megabytes and a vicious and cruel 233mhz of processing power needed to run the game!

So, feast on what we have to offer. It's some pretty darned neat stuff!

Incorrect inform, -ps -al attach.
8:29:11 PM EST - Eberon
Thanks go to Planet Deus Ex for spotting this one over at Shacknews. It's perhaps the biggest GPF I have ever seen! I got one that was close to this one's length, but not quite. Time to make Deus Ex crash!

Planet Deus Ex mapping competition results delayed.
8:22:29 PM EST - Eberon
The Planet Deus Ex mapping contest has hit a snag in its schedule. Due to the overwhelmingly excellent responses, as Warren Spector reports to their site, more time will be needed to pick an absolute best! Head over to Planet Deus Ex to see the full e-mail.

Deus Ex "wins" awards from Maximum PC
8:17:10 PM EST - Eberon
In a wonderful compliment to the designers over at Ion Storm, Maximum PC has awarded Deus Ex the title of "Most intense pathing in an Unreal engine based game." The explanation follows:
Accomplishing what was once thought to be out of the question, Ion Storm managed to get the boats in the game to execute sweeping cinematic turns - which anyone who's ever wrestled with the Unreal editor's rudimentary pathing scheme knows to be damn near impossible
In contrast, MPC awarded Deus Ex the "Worst security in a high security complex" award. Here's what they had to say on this one:
You're an operative. You're interviewing an NPC named Anna Navarre. You finish the discussion, and Agent Navarre tells you to get the hell out of her sight. She must be kidding, right? She must be, because you can walk right by her, hack her computer, and begin collecting data - and she just stands there and stares into space! In fact, all the NPCs in this game are incompetent. So much for union labor.
It seems that our poll to the left coincides with this verdict as well. The gaming awards can be found in the June 2001 issue of Maximum PC.

Where can I get the GOTY Edition?
10:01:45 AM EST - Eberon
Where, you ask? Plenty o' places.

Do keep in mind that none of the staff of DeusEx-Machina.com or TTLG necessarily vouch for the reliability or service that the following merchants provide. In other words, be aware of the "risks" of online buying.

Amazon, $39.99, ships in 24 hours.

Buy.com, $37.95, currently in "advance order" (preorder).

Ebgames.com, $39.99, ships in 24 hours.

These are just a few. I collected the links from Mysimon.com, so if you are not interested in these results, check that site out for more options. I did not include the other ones because most of them have on-par prices or are not rated/not rated well as far as merchants go.

As always, enjoy! If anyone out there does have the Game of the Year edition, please do e-mail me and tell me how the CD is!

New mod: The Wrath of Halo
9:36:41 AM EST - Eberon
The Wrath of Halo site just opened last night on that great PDX site. Here's a snippet from their web site about the project:
The halo were set out tho start a revolution, they were to bring the Illuminati to the surface, to show the people of the world what controlled them the lie they had been told and the intentions of this secret order. You come in. The Illuminati have the right idea. It is time for the people to evolve another level and Halo are just holding us back, - your mission (being part of the IO) is to become part detective and part hardass soldier and find 'The three kings'- the original hackers, and stop the up and coming revolution!
Sounds like a very strong storyline! Be sure to add them to your browser history on a daily basis.

Midnight updates
10:58:27 PM EST - Eberon
Midnight has another update this evening, including a screenshot of something that this reporter cannot identify. Those who are able to stretch their imaginations may be able to come up with an idea, though, as I said, I will leave no comment. Check it out on the main page

And yes, before you start e-mailing me, I do know that the picture is a cropped shot of something much bigger..or at least I just figured that out myself!

Mod updates
4:49:44 PM EST - Eberon
There are lots of things going on in the mod community, including some of the following:

Two new maps are floating around the community, DXMP_Tribute_Park (Review and Download) and DXMP_Ambrosia_Mine (download and download). Both of them were created by Bloodbrada.

Illuminati2072 has a new document that details some of the datapads that will be scattered throughout the game.

Midnight, a seemingly quiet project in terms of news has a slew of new things for visitors. First and foremost, the layout of the site has been entirely redesigned again, and there is some more concept art, more screenshots, another wallpaper, and an updated links page. Check them out for some interesting info on the project!

Lastly, the Planet Deus Ex main page has another poll for your voting pleasure, asking this time whether you avoid the military bots or take them out. Comments on the last poll are here.

Edge of Dark updates
5:45:34 PM EST - Eberon
The Edge of Dark site that has not been updated for over a month just received one. For those of you who do not know, Edge of Dark recently underwent some restructuring changes that altered the focus of the project. Now the basic ideas have been mapped out completely and work is going on behind the scenes on the project! I can't wait to see what's in store..

A piece from Shade01:
There are TONS of new features and characters that we have in store for you, in fact some of these features are already coded. The amount of changes pretty much makes this a total conversion now. The changes made take into account the work already done so there won't be much of a delay from our original timeframe of completion, and our changes will speed things up quite a bit in the future.
Check out the Edge of Dark site for all the beef on the matter.

Helpful Purchasing Info for Deus Ex GOTY
10:06:07 AM EST - BackDoorBandit
Eberon posted yesterday, along with several other computer gaming sites, that Deus Ex GOTY edition has been shipped. It should arrive on store shelves in your local area either today, or tomorrow. If it doesn't, or if the price of the game is of concern to you, or if you're like me and already have the regular Deus Ex, but want to get Deus Ex GOTY edition mainly for the CD with the tracks on it, then keep reading.

On some of the major gaming sites yesterday (Gamespot), they were posting that the suggested retail price of Deus Ex GOTY edition was $44.99. Sorry, but that's too much money for me to spend, especially since I already own the original. So I ventured over to Electronics Boutique and saw that they had it for $39.99. But that's only a $5 savings...I need a drastic price drop to actually go out and get this edition. If you're like me, then keep reading.

Here's what you do. I've noticed over the last two years that my local Best Buy always puts new releases on sale within the first three weeks of the game being shipped. I've bought all of my games from them for the past two years because of this small fact. For instance, I got Baldurs Gate 2 Collector's editon for only $37.99, when it was selling for $59.99 at other locations. Heck, Best Buy even sold it for that price once their one week sale was over. That's the catch here...when Deus Ex GOTY goes on sale at Best Buy, it will only be for one week, then the price will go back to the original price. I don't know exactly what Best Buy will drop the price to, but rest assured, it will be in the twenties. If you can't get to, or don't have a local Best Buy in your area, then just hit up their website at www.bestbuy.com.

Forum happenings
10:42:09 PM EST - Eberon
Lately, in the TTLG Forums there has been lots of talk. Most interesting of discussions talks about a recent decision that the US President made. Grundbegriff from our forums gets credit for spotting a very interesting tidbit that can be found here.

Discuss!

Update: looks like dummy me double posted a news item! D'oh!

Brothers updates
7:32:30 PM EST - Eberon
Brothers, the ever-changing Deus Ex mod has a few things to report.

First and foremost, an announcement that the RedZone map that was released not long ago will not be entering a final version (I take it this means there won't be any more work done on the map).

Brothers also has a new mapper, Pimp-Jojo, who you may recognize from the DX Soccer mod.

The story for Brothers has been completely changed, so be sure to head over there and read up on it and send them feedback!

Finally, if you haven't been there before, be sure to join #DXBrothers on irc.starchat.net to chat with the team and other players! I've visited a few times now and there is usually at least one member of the team there. If you need an IRC client, there are a ton, including the most popular, mIRC.

Small update at Counterfeit.
7:26:17 PM EST - Eberon
Counterfeit has a small update today. Ghandaiah tells us a little about what's going on:
Alright, it's me again. You've probably noted that even though I said this project isn't dead and would be updated soon, it still hasn't been updated. KGB, Counterfeit's webmaster, that silly Russian man, has gone and vanished on me. I haven't heard from him in weeks, and unless I do sometime soon, I guess I'll have to spearhead site updating myself from now on. So, KGB - Where are ya, buddy?
Eek! Come back, KGB!

New map at Deus Ex Ed
7:24:42 PM EST - Eberon
Deus Ex Ed has a new map available for download, entitled DXMP_Parisclub. Give it a whirl if trying out fan maps is your thing.

The Aquinas Hub chugs away.
5:04:19 PM EST - Eberon
The Aquinas Hub has added two new clans to their clans database. Don't forget that you too can have your clan listed there if you so desire. Just send in the revelant info (Name, URL, members, recruiting or not, leader, and a brief description)!

Deus Ex GOTY begins shipping.
5:00:53 PM EST - Eberon
Assuming that things are going according to plan, the Game of the Year Edition of Deus Ex is shipping out today, to be in stores by Friday at least.

If any of you see places to order it or preorder it online, send them in please!

Planet Deus Ex news flood.
4:57:50 PM EST - Eberon
Our friends at Planet Deus Ex have a ton of new and interesting things to say that they have been slacking on for a while (I didn't say it, they did!). These things are...

  • The godly music master, Alexander Brandon (of Unreal,UT, and Deus Ex fame) sent over a note about the Playtag Technology MOD for UT and Quake 3, which creates interactive music based on events you define in the game, or events you can choose from a default list like 'enemy flag captured' or 'health low'.
  • Cant_care_dont@hotmail.com sent over a five map pack called Operation Maddog.
  • The extremely sick and twisted Chris Booton sent over a map and .u package that basically makes cats and dogs explode like MIB's (plus a greasel-spit gun and a TON more stuff). Shame on you :)
  • The mighty J4Neo got ignored a lot back then :) He also sent over an updated version of his web-based DX server administration tool (the old version is here)
  • J4Neo also converted the UT Morbias map to Deus Ex
  • J4Neo created a Deus Ex timedemo benchmarking thingy! Get DXDemo from Fileplanet and make Deus Ex's demo engine cry like a little girl!
  • Dave Downs emailed us about having created a Deus Ex newsgroup, alt.games.deus-ex, but neither my newsserver nor Deja has it listed, so...

  • Wow! Lots of neat things to try out. I know I'm definitely going to be trying out that exploding cats and dogs tweak.

    Bush Assigns FEMA Terrorism Duty
    2:45:32 PM EST - BackDoorBandit
I've spotted this article on a couple of different websites, and in a couple of different formats. I'll post the thread and the website that Grundbegriff started.

Here's the thread that Grundbegriff started, and here's one of many articles talking about Bush assigning FEMA 'Terrorism Duty'.

    BackDoorBandit Returns......."I'm Back!"
    8:09:19 AM EST - BackDoorBandit
Well, well, well. Look who decides to pop his 'Little Bo Peep' head out from under the crevice of a rock.

I would say that I'm returning in some type of glitzy manor, but would that really be the truth? I mean, I'm writing my own damn come back letter...how glitzy is that?

Getting to the serious side of things...I am now officially back and ready to bring you (the DX community) some great journalism, opinionated writing columns, interviews and future coverage of DX2. I would like to apologize to everyone out there for my sudden, abrupt disappearence, but some things went haywire in my personal family life, and I needed to take some time off to get myself and my family back in order before I returned to the online community.

I would like to graciously "Thank" Lee (aka Eberon) for holding down the fort and understanding why I had to take some time off. I would have been back last week, but work took me out to California, and I was extremely busy. I would also like to "Thank" Dan and Saam (The fathers of the TTLG Network) for understanding and not pressuring me to come back.

    Two new projects announced!
    12:20:22 AM EST - Eberon
There are two new modification projects in the community. The first is Deus Ex Vampire. A little about them follows:
From the makers of Echoes of the Past comes the new mod Deus Ex: Vampire. Set in a world where vampires hide in the shadows of the modern world, feeding off of the helpless, you play the part of Sarah Christian, lead researcher of the nano-augmentation project for FEMA and UNATCO. Her life was turned upside down the day that Simian Malakai, third brother of the Malakai family of vampires, sank his teeth into her.
The second is called Star Wars Deus Ex. The team is looking for members in all areas. If you can help out and have the interest, send your application here. A little from the about page gives some information pertaining to the storyline:
The story takes place aproximately one hudred years after Return of the Jedi. Fifteen years ago the Jedi master on Yavin found you as a small child, crying for help in the burning remains of a crashed shuttle. He took you in and taught you the ways of the Jedi. You don't know why you were on the shuttle and why it crashed, and you probobly will never know.

Now skip ahead fifteen years... you are a powerful Jedi, just about ready to graduate from the academy. Then one day you become delusional and try to kill your step-father. He was going to send you to represent the acedemy at the Jedi Council but now he has doubts. You beg for him to send you, and he does; only because something in the force tells him to.
    Welcome, guys!

Help needed with a german project.
    4:15:33 PM EST - Eberon
Thanks go to the newly rejuvinated Deus Ex Center for news on this one: The german modification at Deusexzone.de needs animators, a maper, and a coder. This modification follows after the ending where the player goes with Tracer Tong's agenda. Applications can be sent here, and rest assured, they can speak english!

    New feature at PDX!
    2:38:24 PM EST - Eberon
Great news! Ghandaiah from Planet Deus Ex has come up with a great idea. Starting immediately, Ghandaiah will be producing one interview per week with the different modification projects. This week's interview is done with Raptor from the Warzone mod.

    Check it out right here!

    New goodies from Modus-Moriendi.
    2:20:51 AM EST - Eberon
Modus Moriendi has a few new things today, including two wallpapers, one of JC's office and the other of.. something. But it looks great!

Also new are an unfinished multitool model and a medkit model that can be viewed here.

Lastly is a new member, Hydra, who will be creating at least one map that will appear in the campaign.

    (early) morning news.
    2:12:01 AM EST - Eberon
Not much is going on in the community this weekend. School must be catching up with those students!

I didn't spot this until just tonight because the DX Strain site doesn't support my browser of choice, but that's another story. They have a brand new site design that looks sort of like (but not quite) the Deus Ex interface. Not much is new in the mod itself. Progress on episode one continues.

The All Your Deus Ex Are Belong To Us site also has some new screenshots you should check out on their screenshots page.

Time is running out for the map contest!
    10:32:25 AM EST - Eberon
Planet Deus Ex, our partner in.. something reminds us that Sunday is the deadline for the map contest! Also, be forewarned that there is a 4.88 MB limit on files sent to that address, so if your map is larger than that, you'll need to send it in fragments. Best of luck to all applicants!

Goingto tutorial at Deus Ex Ed.
    10:30:14 AM EST - Eberon
I meant to post this a while ago but didn't get around to it. Deus Ex Ed posted a new tutorial called "GoingTo". To explain what this is, I'll just use the first line of the tutorial:
The goal for this tutorial is to show how a NPC can be triggered to RUN to a certain location within a level.
Well, there you have it! See it here.

    Illuminati 2072 updates
    10:25:53 AM EST - Eberon
The Illuminati 2072 mod has been making lots of changes recently. First and foremost, the main page now utilizes a NewsPro script. Emperor Dofuss reports that his map is progressing well and that we can expect some screenshots soon. Lastly, there is a new BBS that can be found here. The old EZBoard will still remain, but for archive purposes only.

    New strategies at MacDeusEx!
    1:19:32 AM EST - Eberon
Hey MP fans, there's a new strategy write-up over at Mac Deus Ex that covers the Cathedral map. Here's what Robert Baird had to say about it:
This version is for the map "Cathedral" and goes into vivid detail about different places and how use them advantageously. The guide suggests different weapons and augmentations that are sure to increase your frags and ensure your success.
The first guide that was published on the Area 51 map has also been updated with information that users have contributed. Be sure to take a look at this one too, if not for the additions, then for a refresher!

    Face leaves the scene.
    8:06:31 PM EST - Eberon
The DXM staff is saddened to hear of another blow to the community as the very talented mapper Face calls it quits, at least temporarily. Due to reasons that will not be discussed, Face has decided to take a break from his brilliant multiplayer map, HellsGate.

E-mail face here and tell him that you want to see HellsGate finished!

    Evening mod news.
    7:48:28 PM EST - Eberon
There are a few goodies tonight in the mod scene, including updates from Decide, Indecision, Brothers, and DX Soccer.

First on the platter tonight is news from Decide, which is that there really is no news. Eric points out that finals are coming up for many students and wishes them luck. We here at Deus Ex Machina extend our best wishes for them as well.

Indecision has a few new pieces of concept art for this evening along with the Automag II, a weapon from Frankie.

Celebrating a new member and asking for your help in testing a map, Brothers is at it again. The map is the aforementioned RedZone and the team member is John Sanderson who will work on the maps. Chatting about the modification can now occur on the Starchat networks in #DXBrothers!

DX Soccer has a few small things going on, including some fixed site errors and a couple of downloads!

Heads up on the Kylstron Project.
    12:44:15 AM EST - Eberon
The Kylstron Project has a small update today, saying that the new design is approximately 2/3 finished. Personally, I like the current design, but if the webmaster can make it even better with more Flash like he says, more power to him! Two missions are also nearing completion, so let's hope for some screenshots!

    "Counter-Terrorists Win!"
    12:41:59 AM EST - Eberon
Sorry, I couldn't resist the joke. Sadly, it's goodbye to the Terrorism project, which has now disappeared from the face of Planet Deus Ex's web server. You'll be missed, Terrorism, and we hope that the remaining members will find enjoyment in whatever else they do (be it living in Italy or hanging out in a warehouse).
