Your chance for eternal fame!
12:49:07 PM EST - Eberon
The Nameless Mod is looking for submissions for their new short story contest. In a nutshell, you write a story of 400 words or less and submit it to the team (see their website for details, e-mail it to Trestkon) and they'll pick one or two to be included in their release! Excellent opportunity!

Come and get it: New interview: ZODIAC
1:37:30 AM EST - Eberon
That's right; we've interviewed Steve Tack about his latest project, ZODIAC. There are some very interesting questions within our interview, so be sure to check it over! When you're done doing that, visit Steve's site for some music from the first demo. Or download the demo if you haven't already tried it!

PCGamer just can't get enough!
11:53:02 AM EST - Eberon
PC Gamer can't get enough of DX2. This month once again they have a preview page covering our beloved sequel. One wonders if they have plans to simply keep previewing the game for the next 12 months until its supposed approximate release. At any rate, though there are really no new sights to see in the article and the textual sections are pretty modest. Here's a clip anyway, because I'm a really nice guy:
"You're on the catwalk at the air terminal. There's a shack at the bottom of the stairs with a guard inside. He's alert for any sound outside his station. You see two tires on a rack to your left. Push both to the top of the stairs, and send the firs tone bouncing down. As it zooms past the guard shack, he steps out to investigate. At jsut the right moment, you send the second tire rolling down the stairs into the guard's path -- walloping him. The impact even knocks the pistol from the guard's hand. You take advantage of the diversion and leap over the banister and onto the top of the guard shack, unnoticed."
Sounds like the guys are at it again! Just think of the implications of this system in a soda-swapping world. Stealthy exchange of lemon lime for orange will be oh-so-easy for the intelligent agent!

TNM updates!
8:40:54 PM EST - Eberon
The Nameless Mod features a fairly large update today. There are eight -- count 'em -- eight skins from the team as well as some music from their new mapper (apparently he has more than one talent!), Tre. In addition to checking out these goods, the team urges you to continue your support in their forums

Newsbits.
3:51:13 PM EST - Eberon
Community news has been slow over the past week or two. One thing worth mentioning is the ConEdit (conversation eidtor, comes with the SDK) tutorial available now at DXEditing that can be read here. The article writer, Trestkon (of TNM fame) has even taken the liberty of including pictures with the tutorial! Be sure to give it a once-over if you're getting a little rusty with that tool.

In other site news, I was recently reminded (by Steve Tack) of the Presidential Emergency mod. He was commenting on how, though it lacks new and flashy media, it's quite an excellent piece of gameplay. Last night I added it to our Fan Mission list, so be sure to download it some time!

Bugfix 1.3 released.
12:07:22 AM EST - Eberon
Though admittedly I can't make much of the two sites, apparently Smuggler and his bugfix product have teamed up with the Deus Ex Community Based Patch and will now be churning out and even bigger and better product.

Incidentally, what seems to be (though as I say I am still confused) a totally different product, Bugfix 1.3, has surfaced on Smuggler's site. It does a number of things, though in respects to multiplayer only. Still, it appears to have quite a few worthy optimizations, so it might be worth a look. Thanks goes to our friends at D-X.org for the heads up.

Deus Ex 2 SDK - TBA.
10:10:44 PM EST - Eberon
Word comes down from many generous sources that the current plan for a possible (read carefully: possible) Deus Ex 2 SDK is a post-ship release. As with the original, the team has been tying together many various independent systems to the Unreal Warfare engine, and as such operation is apparently a pretty esoteric skill. The current priority from what I've heard is pretty low for cranking out intuitive tools.

The greater feeling among the team is apparently that they would very much like to release the development tools to the public. This is the uncertainty. What is certain is the fact that if they are released, it will be post-ship. What does this mean for DX2 modders? Not much. I imagine that with the time we've already seen gone into mods and the net products we have from that time, a post-ship release of the SDK won't be hurting anyone greatly. Note that all of this is, of course, subject to change (since the game is an entire year away at best!).

Cassandra is looking for some "special" talent.
1:04:00 PM EST - Eberon
Our own Cassandra Project is looking for a couple of odd music jobs to be put together, with, of course, fame and fortune that accompanies having your name stamped to a Deus Ex mod. Information on exactly what they need can be found here. From what I've heard so far out of projects, their requests should be a breeze for some of the more experienced musicians/composers out there. The contact address is KG.

A coupla mod updates.
12:54:01 PM EST - Eberon
Well, I've returned from my unannounced hiatus.

The Nameless Mod sends word that they have again updated their POTW and that work continues on their progress applet, which is apparently broken.

DX Prequel has some new wallpaper for your desktop's enjoyment. It can be found in 800x600 and 1024x768 flavors.

Deus Ex 2 in Computer Games
10:51:13 AM EST - Eberon
I just received the August issue of Computer Games Magazine, which contains, among other things, a preview covering Deus Ex 2. Sadly, it's all very old hat if you've been keeping up with the other media both online and in print. Still, if you just can't get enough, be sure to pick up a copy when it hits news stands and turn to pages 50 and 51. A nice quote follows, because I said so:
"Taking the stealth route in the first game wasn't exactly easy, but the ability to dynamically create and hide in shadows will give sneaky players more options. Spector is perhaps a bit hard on the first game's stealth features. 'We were the second best stealth game on the market [behind Thief],' he says, and we sucked. Now we're not going to.'"

Disclosure news: Upcoming demo #2!
5:10:30 PM EST - Eberon
The Disclosure website has been updated with news that the project's second demo will be released soon -- some time in August, if beta testing goes well. Additionally, though I'm not sure how "new" they are, there are some facts about the real-world based places and people that appear in Disclosure, so be sure to visit the website and read them if you haven't already, as well as check out some of the new screenshots in the files section!

Redsun updates.
3:36:42 PM EST - Eberon
The Redsun 2020 website has been updated with the following: a current team members list, word of progress on the latest internal beta (alpha, anyone?), and news that they are again cooking up some levels with excellent gameplay. The one discussed today apparently has not one, not two, but four angles of attack. Be sure to visit their website for the full scoop.

DX Prequel gets their webmaster.
10:59:59 PM EST - Eberon
News belatedly reaches us regarding Braun (of the one and only Polish DX fansite fame) being added to the webmaster position at the DX Prequel project. This is most definitely good news for the DX Prequel team!

The Nameless Mod updates.
10:56:23 PM EST - Eberon
There's some more news lately from The Nameless Mod: Namely news that Spaceman's internet access has been compromised and as a result he won't be able to continue his work at this time. What he had worked on is luckily being handed off to another team member. Additionally, team member "Abom"'s work is featured in this POTW -- a very interesting texture. Of smaller consequence are the absences of Winquman and Jonas, and finally news of some recently added polls to vote in over at your friendly community site DXEditing.org (hit their forums section for them).

DX-Triads updates - screens and tunes.
10:01:24 PM EST - Eberon
Yet another update from the realm of D-X.org hits us today from one of their hosted sites, DX-Triads. There are some excellent looking screenshots that have been recently added to their shots section as well as some tracks available for your aural pleasure. Give 'em a visit and see what they're up to!

DAI to release demo for DX1 soon.
9:58:56 PM EST - Eberon
The kind reporters at Deus-Ex.org point out that one of their hosted projects, Deadly Artificial Intelligence, a mod for Deus Ex 2, will be releasing a demo soon in the DX1 world. It will include a couple of missions and a couple of new weapons we should expect to see. If nothing else, give their website a visit -- they have a snazzy design.
